Weekend Blog Recommendations
I’m sort of in a lull right now regarding what to post.
Here are some blogs I highly recommend checking out. Some I’ve plugged before, so I’m sorry to be redundant, but eh… just wanted to give an updated kudos to some of my Tumblr favorites. Obviously there are many more cool people and blogs on here, and, no doubt, I “heart” most of the posts they make.
A punk zine that contains a variety of articles and thought-provoking essays about sexism, racism, and homophobia in punk culture. Some are pulled from various sources, like this amazing one. I just discovered this and I like what these folks are doing.
Riot grrrl isn’t dead! Lots of positive vibes, flyers, slogans, musicians, and grrrls of all shapes, colors, sizes, etc.
Another feminist source conquering sexism, etc.
Art from the Japanese underground.
Food porn! I don’t identify as a vegan, but I’ve still seen plenty of tasty recipes and food inspiration on both of these blogs. They’re great especially if you’re looking to make vegan food for a friend or want to substitute vegan options into your diet.
This is one of my all-time favorite art blogs of the universe. This person spends a great deal of time hunting down images and the hard work pays off because it’s a great source for inspiration. Huge variety and, unlike the majority of people on Tumblr or the Internet in general, the artists and sources are always credited. (Note: one of my biggest pet peeves is when people reblog things and remove credits or go so far as to credit themselves as the page the image links to. It’s just douchetastic.)
Tons of power pop from the past and present. Need some catchy tunes? This should do.
Lots of lesser-known music, old and new. Punk, new wave, post-punk, power pop, garage, reggae, etc. I work on this with Sofia, Jim, and Dustin. (If you’re not following them, then I’m gonna ask you why the hell not! They’re good folk.) I’m mostly plugging this to let you know that if you want to contribute on the zine/blog, you shouldn’t hesitate to let me know. I’m sure we’d love to have some more knowledgeable music heads. If you’ve got a lot of old, dusty stuff hanging around that you want to share or have a heads-up on the latest and greatest… well, you know what to do.
Haven’t heard of this yet? It’s a new zine featuring all things garage rock. Reviews, news, interviews, mixes, free giveaways, etc.
